Game Development: The Industry

The game development industry is the complex process of planning, designing, and creating a video game. The process can take years, as the quality and accuracy of each detail from the beginning concept to the design, development, and distribution stages is equally important in terms of the final product.

The industry has evolved far from its early days of Pac-Man and Frogger, as video games today (such as Ratchet and Clank and Borderlands) include detailed story lines and characters with complex personalities, as well as much more choice in terms of gameplay (seen in games such as The Sims and Nancy Drew).

Game development continually grows in size and significance, as the profession is in demand by various industries, and the consumer profile ranges from children to adults both male and female.
